Updated: State Police confirm accident on Interstate 81 involving trooper
We have an update about the accident on Interstate 81 involving a State Police trooper.
Our News7- photographer on the scene has learned that the trooper was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Apparently the trooper, who was in an unmarked car, had pulled over a tractor trailer around 6: 45 on Interstate 81 northbound at mile marker 162. That's near Buchanan.
Both he and the tractor trailer driver were in the trooper's car when it was stuck on the driver's side by another tractor trailer going northbound.
That tractor trailer fled the scene. State Police are looking for that vehicle. It is described dark-colored.
Meanwhile, The left northbound lane is closed.
As we mentioned, while the trooper was taken to the hospital, the other person in his car was not injured. He's helping state police with the investigation.
