Lanetta Ware retired from Hollins, but she doesn’t plan to give up the land

A girl needs two tractors.

That's why Lanetta Ware of Troutville, co-owner of Persimmon Hill Farm, won't sell her old John Deere to the local farmers who often ask to buy it.

“It's in good shape, that's why they want it,” she said with satisfaction as she surveyed her equipment, the barn (one of four she has built) and her herd of 80 beef cattle munching quietly behind the fence.
