A Day on the Upper James with the Governor

Governor Tim Kaine spent Monday afternoon floating the James River from Eagle Rock to Salt Peter Cave. The float trip proved to be multi-purpose. It gave the Governor a chance to fish on a beautiful afternoon, and it provided the Department of Conservation and Recreation a chance to do some filming for a commercial that will promote tourism.

It also provided a great setting for a local landowner and a local freelance writer to spend time with the Governor on a stretch of water they both care for. Lord Botetourt High School teacher and outdoor writer Bruce Ingram helped set up the trip, and Jack Leffel, who owns over a mile of land on this part of the James and is a Botetourt School Board member, took turns in the canoe with Kaine....
