Car crash near U.S. 220 kills Blue Ridge man

The Roanoke Times

A single-car accident claimed the life of a Blue Ridge man Sunday night in Botetourt County, according to Virginia State police.

Police spokesman Sgt. Bob Carpentieri said Gregory Scott Orange, 19, was traveling on Virginia 683, also known as Patterson Trail, approximately 200 feet west of U.S. 220.

It was not known Sunday night which direction he was traveling, or if he was alone in the vehicle.

About 7 p.m., Orange’s 1988 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected and then ran off the left side of the road, where the truck flipped several times.

Orange was pronounced dead at the scene a short time after the crash, Carpentieri said.

He was not wearing his seat belt.
