Another mother grieves the loss of her child

Sarrah Sass' car was struck at the same intersection where Erin Monsell had been in an accident.

Jennifer Sass didn't realize the weight of what her daughter was saying.

Sarrah Sass had called home to say that her good friend Erin Monsell had been injured in a car wreck....

...On Sept. 24, 2005, Erin was struck by a paving truck while pulling onto U.S. 11 from Brughs Mill Road in Botetourt County....

...She had already suffered one blow that summer when another classmate at James River died in a motorcycle accident.

That girl, Krystin Gail Kozlowski, was a grade behind Sarrah, who had graduated from James River that spring....

...Erin had been the first friend Sarrah made when she transferred to James River for the second half of her sophomore year.

Sarrah began attending Mill Creek Baptist Church where Erin's stepfather, Randy Daniels, is minister. The girls got part-time jobs together, first at Country Cookin' in Troutville, then at Brughs Mill Country Store in Fincastle....

...Erin was busy with her senior year at James River....

... When they reached Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, though, Gray turned to Sass and told her that her daughter had been in a car accident. Sarrah's Ford Taurus had been struck after Sarrah pulled in front of an F-150 pickup truck at the same intersection where Erin had wrecked less than a month earlier....
