Proposed 2007-08 budget tops $92 mil., new jail adds $7.3 mil.

Next Wednesday, Botetourt County officials will hold a public hearing on a $92.8 million 2007-2008 fiscal year budget. The April 11 hearing will be held at 7 p.m. in the Old General District Courthouse meeting room in Fincastle.

The budget, which must be approved by the supervisors before it takes effect, will increase 22.4 percent over the current year's $80.4 million. However, a large portion of that $12.3 million difference belongs to the new regional jail, reflecting a state reimbursement of $7.3 million in in/out monies. When that figure is removed, the increase in the county's overall budget is 6.7 percent. . . .
